It was State's rights. Don't believe what they teach you in public schools in America, at least in the North. The North and the South had a different view on the Rights of the States and where the Federal Govt's powers should lie. In the 1860 election there were actually the Northern and Southern Democrats and Republicans. Lincoln just happened to beat out the other 3 in the electoral college. That lead to the Succession of the South, and the war was caused more or less by Lincoln actually. The South took over the Forts that were on their land. Lincoln sent supplies and troops to Fort Sumter, so before they could get there the South opened fire on the Fort and captured it. Had Lincoln not sent the supplies the South would have likely not attacked. Now little known fact is that the C.S.A. Constitution actually ended the importation of slaves. The thing is people are taught of the Emancipation Proclamation, and learn of it INCORRECTLY as it only freed the slaves in the "rebel States and territories", and don't understand that was a political move. It was done to make sure that France and England would end support of the South because they couldn't support the South if it was about slavery, or if their people THOUGHT it was about slavery.

It has become predictable that someone always has to deny the role that SLAVERY played in the American Civil War.
"States Rights!" they claim. Included in those very same "States Rights" was the right to buy and sell human beings as property - yes, the "peculiar institution" that the southrons never tire of telling us was not a cause in the Civil War and was really a blessing for the Africans. Yawns.

The main causes were: 1. Slavery 2. The Secession of the Slave States 3. Southern Aggression

Slavery grew to become into the overriding subject. States' rights grew to become into smoke and mirrors, an excuse, no longer a reason to revolt. The South wished to circumvent making slavery their reported reason. It grew to become into considered as undesirable P.R. They knew that they could choose help from Europe, in all probability Britain. Many eu international places could have favorite that the U.S. be fractured. States had ceded their authority, whilst they ratified the form. The shape grew to become into designed to place the federal authority over the states, because of the fact the unique plan. of a weaker federal government had failed, below the Articles of Confederation. Newspaper articles, from the time of the ratification votes, entreated ratification once you think approximately that it may circumvent states from secession.
