As part of my daughter's history homework she has to do a front page of a newspaper as if writing about the Battle of Hastings from either perspective - Harold's side or William's side and I just wondered if anyone had any great ideas for the title of the paper? The best we have come up with so far is 'Daily Chain Mail' or 'Hastings Herald'! All sensible ideas gratefully received! She is only 11 so nothing too crude or time-wasting - thanks! Her preference is to do the paper from Harold's side and I am sure there are numerous witty comments about anticipating beating the French in last weekend's papers about the rugby, but since she has to do the paper reporting on the battle itself, it might be easier to do the conquering side? Any help would be appreciated - she is enjoying the task enormously and has done a lot of research and so I want to encourage her newly-found enthusiasm for history.

I cannot remember the guy's name but I remember reading about a man from India who, with practially no formal education, recreated math and physics on his own in notebooks. Some English scientists discovered him and took him to Cambridge only to have him die in car accident a short time later. Does anyone know the guy's name????

Excerpt from the Catholic Catechism:

The strict conditions for legitimate defense by military force require rigorous consideration. The gravity such as a desicion makes it subject to rigorous conditions of moral legitimacy. At one and the same time:

- damage inflicted by the agressor on the nation or community of nations must be lasting, grave and certain

- all other means of putting an end to it must have been shown to be impractical or ineffective

- there must be serious prospects of success

- the use of arms must not produce evils and disorders gravers than the evil to be eliminated. The power of modern means of destrucion weighs very heavily in evaluating this condition.

These are the traditional elements enumerated in what is called "just war" doctrine.

The evaluation of these conditions for moral legitimacy belongs to the prudential judgement of those who have reponsibility for the common good.

With this information: Was WWI a just war?

"The Revolution fundamentaly transformed American society. In the immediate aftermath of the the Revolution we abandoned monarchy and aristocracy in favor of a radically democratic form of government; we shed the economic institutions of the colonial era; and we overthrew the old social order, putting in its place a system of social equality the like of which the world had never seen."
