I cannot remember the guy's name but I remember reading about a man from India who, with practially no formal education, recreated math and physics on his own in notebooks. Some English scientists discovered him and took him to Cambridge only to have him die in car accident a short time later. Does anyone know the guy's name????

It sounds like the story of Ramanujan conflated with some legend. His speciality was not physics but, rather, pure mathematics, especially number theory.

He was largely self-taught and was taken under the wing of a famous British mathematician named GH Hardy who recognized his incredible talent after the boy wrote to him out of high school in India around the turn of the ( 20th) century
