I found at a garage sale a wooden box shaped like a large book. Inside was a bible from1796 (King James) and a Hymnal from the 1700s as well. Anybody know anything about such things or if it's of value? both are in English printed in Massachucettes

Knowing the right value of antiques is crucial. Fact is, it's information that isn't easily revealed.

Find a reputable, internationally known, Antique Books dealer - like Sotheby's or Christies Auction house...get on thier website and email the person who works for them that is the expert in that field for some advice...

Also, get online at your nearest University and see if they have a Religious Studies department - if they do, email a Professor who studies Christianity and see if they have any recommendations.

Going thru a local Antique Dealer is not good - for something like that, you need to go to a reputable firm who specializes in specific things like this.

Find an antique dealer to take it to. It is probably worth quite a lot if it is in good condition. It mainly depends on the condition so they would have to look at it in person. Do not send it by mail. You might not get it back. You can find them in the yellow pages or even on-line.
