How did normal society function in Nazi Germany? You always hear about the government, the war, and the Holocaust (Which was terrible) but what about regular society of typical Germans that the government accepted and who accepted the government?

Were there still luxuries, did people still go to restaurants, bars, clubs, and do regular things? I suppose as the entire time Nazi Germany was at war, it was like any other country at war. I imagine the secret police units scared quiet a few people. Could anyone own a business or were many businesses nationalized and people actually lost money?

Was the atmosphere of fear everywhere in the country? Did anyone go day to day living normally with their families? Or was everyday life even dictated to an extent?

Did everyone become less materialistic, more war focused, more government participation focused? What was going on in everyday society?

Firstly, please no offensive answers here... concentration camps were disgusting and we should all be ashamed that human beings were even capable of inventing them.

I'm just wondering why were they called concentration camps? I'm thinking it may have something to do with fooling the victims to go to them but why the word 'concentration'?

If my history is correct, Guy Fawkes intended to murder several elected members of state in one of the earliest examples of terrorism.

Why then, is he looked upon so favorably by modern British? To the point that he was voted as one of the top 100 Britons.

I do not recall seeing much repeated video of events during the day, and days following President Kennedy's assasination as well as Jack Ruby killing Lee Harvey Oswald. I recall more straight coverage. Am I correct that there was little or no repeated showings of events, such as Ruby killing Oswald, unlike the repeated showing of tragic events over and over now a days....such as Sept. 11th.

I thought that Egyptians at this time would have sat atop of Gold and been catered on, but it sounds like they lived a somewhat carefree lifestyle, almost like the Greeks. Did they live a less-lush life than what is implied?
