They were both terrible, but I think the Holocaust was worse. The systematic destruction of an entire race of people for no other reason besides who their ancestors were I find as much worse than just wanton destruction. I don not believe the Rape of Naking was a planned event by the government (I also don't think it was censored either, just a blind acceptance of the act) but the Holocaust was planned at the very highest levels, and given top priority by the Nazis. In today's justice system, there is a differene between planned murder, and murder in the heat of the moment and I think, perhaps, if differences are to be made, the same can be applied here. As to the effet, the Holocaust is part of the reason the nation of Israel was founded after WWII, it was thought widely by the Jewish community that the only person that would protect a Jew was a Jew. The UN agreed and gave the Jews Israel. Ever since, Israel has been surrounded by hostile states, bent on their destruction, and has fought several wars for survival and still contributes to the volatility of the region. I don't think any similar comparisons exist as a result of the Japanese atrocities, but I could be wrong there as my knowledge of Chinese history, especially recent, is limited.

The holocaust is set off from other massacres because of the reason. Most atrocities in war time occur to people who are at the wrong place at the wrong time. Hitler went looking for Jews with the intention of eradicating them from Europe

Rape of Nanking was just the tip of the ice berg of Japanese atrocities in China. China suffered greatly from the war with Japan.
Holocaust was a separate issued, if did not affect any country but was set to exterminate an entire race. All the countries under German occupation and Germany itself suffered.
The gravity may not necessarily be based on how its the victims were ' slaughtered', I should think the Japanese were more wonton and sadistical in their methods but in temrs of numbers, its 6 millions Jews/minorities in (6 years) versus 300,000 Chinese in (three weeks).

I think it is the bombing of dresden on 14 february 1944 by allied airfoces under the orders of air marshall arthur harris raf. useless, military aimless, shameless. about 200000 civilians burned alive in a matter of hours.best example of paranoia mixed with military power. watch some pohtos. you gonna get goose piples
