Despite Yankee sailor's proud boast the English, being more intelligent than that, did surrender when they lost. Which did happen a few times around. The never surrender is part of the same myth as WWI and WWII were won single handedly by the US.
What they never had since William the Conqueror was an invasion. Those thirty kilometres of water put a serious obstacle in front of all those invading armies, horses don't swim that well and don't start me about tanks.

No, that is not true. The British Army under Lord Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, South Carolina. This act practically ended the American Revolutionary War in favor of The Americans.

If you mean never, ever, I thought it was recorded that the British general Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, in the Revolutionary War? That comes to mind just off the top of my head, though I'm thinking it hasn't happened often over history.

while there have been a few examples as other posters said ( BTW, Yorktown is in Virginia )
by and large the Brits don't surrender. Pride, courage, history, tradition............and the French have cornered the market on white flags!

and as Cabal points out, the Brits always have had the advantage of the 20 miles of English Channel....or,as Fist Lord of the Admiralty John Jervis said about Napoleon....
.( and Cunningham could have said about Hitler) " I do not say they can not come. I only say they can not come by sea".

I think what you meant about "never surrender" was the phrase that became famous during WW2 by Churchill.

"we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender"

the battles involve here are the battle of britain and battle of atlantic, so the answer is yes.

If your talking about the whole history, USE YOUR COMMON SENSE, no country is perfect, they also lose.

You might mean never conquered. Yes, as a modern nation. Before Great Britain was unified nation you had the Norman Conquest, the Roman occupation etc.

Can you be more specific? If you are talking about that the British never give up I want to remind you that they were kicked 2 times by the Puerto Ricans when they try to conquer that island in the Caribbean Sea. One of the captains kicked was the Count of Cumberland.

Sorry for hurt your feelings, but this is the truth, you blinded your self, not us.
