Most people believe that the answer lies among two people, Washington who helped create the country and set the precedents on how are system was going to work and Lincoln, who defeated the rebellion of power hungry extremists who were only interested in the perpetuation of human bondage. Personally, I vote Lincoln, due to his policies freeing the nation of the cancer of slavery.

FDR- He got us out of the depression is nothing more than a FDR PR created myth. In fact, if you look at the economic records, the US did not recover from the Great Depression until they entered World War II.

JFK- Are you kidding? because you think he might have done something good, that rates him as the best president ever?

Clinton- Are you kidding?

The three above get high ranks from some people because these three were all experts at media manipulation(PR), but if you look at their actual records, they are not even remotely close to accomplishing the things that Washington and Lincoln did.

Thomas Jefferson. He was a great leader before becoming president and though he preferred being retired on his farm, he returned to public service at the people's request. He reduced the national debt, was commited to limited government, saw the construction of a permanent US Navy for the defense of the nationand our trade routes, and had the backbone to stand up and fight the Barbary Pirates where not even the European powers would.

ill. Brother Harry S. Truman, needs to be considered as well. After FDR's death, Truman took over and after an agonizing time decided to " drop the bomb " which was a terrible decision. yet, in the long run, saved many lives of both Allies and Japanese soldiers. the invasion of Japan was already in motion and had Allied Forces been forced to enter Japan and fight there would have been many more casualties. ask any WWII veteran who was on the way.

Bill Clinton. In spite of his problems with Monica,(that is between him and Hilary) he got the nation back on it's feet and created a surplus.I live in Europe ( Spain ),and I have talked to the people from here (and other European countries) and Clinton is the best liked and admired president of our times, even more so than Ike,who was also well liked over here.I was proud to be an American (over here ) while Clinton was President.I am still proud, but I don't go around advertising the fact.If the people in Europe could vote for the U.S. president,Hilary would win hands down because they would also be getting Bill involved again.I was a republican at one time, but that ended years ago.As a responsible citizen, one must vote for the person, and not the party. Before you vote, take a look at the person's track record.

Lincoln last heres whyIn an 1858 debate Lincoln made the following statements**:

I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races -- that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races. . . .I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.***

To me the 35th President of the US John F. Kennedy must be considerd as the Best President.

Though very few years at his disposal and some controversial military decisions, Kennedy proved to be a great President not because for short term gains but for his long term vision. In his own words "I am certain that after the dust of centuries has passed over our cities, we, too, will be remembered not for victories or defeats in battle or in politics, but for our contribution to the human spirit.

Probably he wanted to do great things but tragedy took a nasty turn in his life.He left one thing which everyone will cherish - charismatic smile. His smile will inspire everyone.

Lincoln. He made a brave move going against so many to help push forward freedom.
But I really believe that every president has something great they have done to help the country even if we don't like everything they have done.

Abraham Lincoln because he was honest thats why they called him honest Abe and because Emancipation Proclamation which attempted 2 Confederate slaves. but they only freed a minority of slaves and when he died they finally decided 2 make Abraham Lincoln`s wish come true.
He is my favorite President in U.S. history because he left the slaves their freedom so in other words he made the 1st step in our world that we live in now that is why Abraham Lincoln is my favorite President in U.S. History.
