I've read multiple articles giving the impression that one could find out what one's ethnic makeup is via a genetic/DNA test. For instance, one could find out if one if he is a mix of Eastern European and Native American ancestry. My mom may have some ethnic mixture on her side. However, much to my dismay, I spoke to one of the larger DNA testing firms and they said that's not the case??? They can only verify the "single origin" of the direct line (mother's mother's mother's...) w/ no influence from any spouses - so that doesn't help me! Anyone w/ expertise on this have any comments/suggestions to help us find out what the mixture might be? (we don't need to know %, which I've been told is not possible anyway - we just want to know whehter there is a mix and what that might be - Spanish, European, etc.?)

Would anyone be able to tell me where i should start to search for the location of my Great Grandfather's grave.

He was born in Croatia late 1800's and went to work in Canada Toronto around 1911. Apparently a year into his job he died, no idea of what and when i ask my mum she says 'I don't know, he was given an injeciton and died', he was buried there by his work mates. He left behind a wife and 2 toddlers. When i ask my relatives overseas or my mum they do not seem to have much information as they lived in a very poor village and just accepted the fact that he died. This year i started thinking about him and thought how sad that he died so young and alone in a foreign country and know one talks about it.
Would you think there would be a death certificate in Canada, do you think the hospital would have registered his details after he died? I wonder how dead foreigners would have been treated ?

Great grandfather was minister late 1800s. Married to a native american. I am trying to find history on them. They traveled to Oregon from the midwest and were not land owners, nor recorded anywhere that I can find. Their son (my grandfather) served in WWI in the Army air corps. I understand those military records were destroyed in a fire. I am hoping his enlistment records might provide information on his parents.

I was wondering if the French typically used naming patterns when naming their children. I have an enormous amount of experience researching my Dutch ancestry and anyone who has done Dutch research knows, they were big on naming patterns. As far as researching French lines go, I am an infant. Any tips on French research would be appreciated. Thank you.

My great grandfather came over from Switzerland, as did all of his brothers and sisters except for one. Her name was Elise Grossenbacher, and she married a man whose last name is Allenspach. Their family should still be in Switzerland, most likely Geneva. Their children were Renee and George Allenspach, who might still be alive. Renee married Charles Lugeone, and their children were Michell and Alain. George had a child named Nichole. I'm looking to find these relatives in order to find more about my great grandfather and his parents. How can I find these relatives?

I am not sure which Tsar it was (Not Nicholas II) - Maybe his father or Tsar Alexander. He had an affair with the British Ambassador's wife who were based in St Petersburgh. As a result she got pregnant and bore him twin daughters. These children were totally not recognised as legitimate - but nevertheless one of the twin girls went on to have 14 children, and one of those children was my grandfather. How to get to the bottom of it though - 'cause I suppose tracing something that was deliberately covered up might be difficult? The girls were given the name of Ward - whether that was the Ambassador's name who took them on as his own, I dont know. Any ideas how to even begin to search this one?
