I am trying to research my family, The Sill family, of OH and IL. I have some info from a family tree, but I can't find anything online, except something in the 1880 census that may not be my family. My grandfather's parents were Edward Sill and Georgia Dittmer. Edward was born in Hancock Co IL on Dec 18, 1903 and died in Loraine, IL. Edwards parents were John R Sill, born Jan 14, 1874, possibly born in Licking Co OH, and his mother was Mary Zinn. I think I've found John's parents in the 1880 Licking County, OH census, but their last name is presented as Sills. I've tried to find Licking County, OH records with the Sill name, and also in IL, with absolutely NO luck! I would love some suggestions on where to go from here!

I alreayd know of such sites as ancestry.com etc etc. What I'm really asking is-I know my relatives names, where they live etc. But I would love to be able to contact them via telephone or letter but the above listed sites simply do not have the information for current place of residency. They are in Cheshire, england in the town of Norwich. Does anyone know how to contact cities or towns of england for such information?
I'd appreciate any help in this I could get, as I would love to talk to and one day soon meet my relatives in England. Thanks in advance!

I'm cannot find my grandmother's name (or her siblings she traveled with) in the Ellis Island registries. Could she have entered the U.S. at a different port? She was arrived from Germany and ended up in California.

My friend says she is 100% Irish, but I'm not sure. Is it really possible for ANYONE to have just one ethnicity? Like not even 3% something else?

I'm adopted, so my last name doesn't help at all. I know that my biological mom was Japanese, and that's pretty much it. Where can I can get a DNA test or something? =P

I'm looking for more genealogy information about my great-grandmother. Her name was Minnie Kawaleski, but it's VERY likely her name could be mispelled. Her Social Security death index lists her by her married name, Minnie McFarlane.

She was born 24 Sep 1892 in Germany, but I can't find a single record about her arriving in the United States on ellisisland.org. She arrived before 1922. She married Otto Alexander McFarlane (around 1920?)

She died Jan of 1967, and her S.S. number was 549-28-1483

With all these details, why can't I find more ancestry information? She had a brother, Karl and a sister, Marie. Who were her parents? Where in Germany did she come from? I have exhausted my search on Ancestry.com

All of my grandparents have been dead since I was young and there isn't really anyone in family who knows more than the immediate, current stuff.
I am quite mixed- Puerto Rican, Portugese and Croatian. I am interested especially because I feel like I have missed out on what I see in so many families- history and knowledge and so much more.
Has anyone here ever had a similar experience? How do you get past those road blocks? I would really like to know these things and share them with my family and one day give my children a history to run with.
