I was just wondering, because during my genealogical research, I came across a census record from the 19th century that listed my great-great-great-grandmother's birthplace as being "Wertenberg". I looked for places in Germany with that name, and the closest place names I came to were Wartenberg, which is in Berlin, and Württemberg, which was an independent state before the German Empire was formed in 1871. I'm assuming that my great-great-great-grandmother came to the States before 1871, so what do you think?

My real surname indicates both Irish and Scottish ancestry and geneolgists tell me that my forbears originally came from Ireland but settled in Peebleshire around 1100 A.D.
Why might this have been? The name is Dunn.

My grandfather recently stated that his ancestors came over to America in 1620. Is this really possible? I know that Jamestown was established in 1607 and other colonies soon after, but is it likely that this is a family myth? If its true, then can I honestly say that that side of my family is the most American-southern family in the US, since they have lived on basically the same Louisiana and Mississippi since then?

I have bought the three month world deluxe package and I have to say that I'm very happy I did. However I'm having trouble tracing back a woman who was born in 1833. I know her first name is Lucy and her middle initial is A. And from the 1880 census I know that both her parents were born in New Hampshire as was she. She was married to a man named Charles F. Waite (my great great great grandfather) who served in the civil war on the union side. I know he was born in Massachusetts as were his parents. And their residency during the census was in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. Can Someone please help me find out her last name, or more importantly where her family came from?

And for additional information they had 5 children by 1880. And all but one were born in New York.

My gandmother was from a Cherokee tribe, but when she was alive, it was not a good thing so she didn't want to leave any trace of it. There are no government records of her that I can find. I have read that only males can prove this but I am female. Is this true? If it is possible to prove, how can I do it?

Is anyone here related to someone really, really famous?

And no, I'm not talking about "My uncle's dog's groomer's sister's best friend's first cousin twice removed is Dr. Phil's donut boy."

Like, as in brother, sister, cousin, aunt, uncle, grandma, etc.
