No dictionaries allowed. With the variety of questions asked under this heading I am curious to see what answers I get. And yes, I know the meaning.

I was wondering, of those of you who are actually doing genealogy, how many sources do you want before you take the information as fact?
For example, you find a possible ancestor listed in the 1880 census only, and no where else. Do you add that person to your tree, or do you wait until you've found at least one more source for them?
I usually want 3 sources, but will settle for 2 if they are good ones, like BDM records. However, I have run into a lot of brick walls where I can only find one source for that person. I'm not sure whether to go ahead with the line, or wait. So I was just curious as to what others do in similar situations.

I have tried looking on the internet on people search, but I had no luck.Is there an accurate website that I can go to without wasting a lot of time? The websites that I have gone to, waste time and don't even have accurate and up-to-date results.

I think it may be Hungarian or perhaps Swedish, but I'm not really sure.

Is it HOL-its or HOL-eyets? Or something else?

I have always wanted to track my family roots but couldnt due my dads lack of presence. We have recently started talking and now I have access to names on his side. What is the best place to go on the web to track this? I'm currently overseas so I must do it by computer.

I am looking for a good genealogy software package that will run on Microsoft Windows XP. I've used Family Tree Maker in the past; however, you never know if you have the latest version. It seems that they come out with a new version practically once per month.

Please keep price, quality, and ease of use in mind when giving a recommendation.

Also, I would like to store a photograph or two (at least) of the person, scans of paperwork regarding the person, and maybe even a voice recording if possible.

Thanksgiving is coming up in about 6 weeks, then Christmas in about 9. Do you remember the Thanksgiving and Christmas stories your family has passed down? I like the ones that tell about family history, or family traditions.

Recently my dad had an autosomal DNA test done by the website DNAtribes, He is from Germany.. his mom is german and his dad was latvian, however the test came back saying he was most likely to be portugese and northeast polandese... there were also 18 other matches because they tell you your top 20 matches... most of these were north african and mediterreanean... does anyone know or trust DNAtribes reputability? is it possible to breakdown very specific areas and regions that my dad is likely to have in his blood (i.e. lille, france, andalusian spain, asni berber)? oh, in the DNA test there was no mention of him being German at all... he was never told that his mom was adopted or his dad.... but both parents are dead so we cant ask.

please help explain autosomal testing!! serious replies only please.
