What is the best way to go about finding my ancestry?

I know three basic names: On my mom's side Whittier and Vanorder, All I know about these is that I am related some how to John Greanleaf whittier and that line had moved from country to country before settling in the United States, knowing of my relation, it would have to be before the 1800's. I have also heard that my Vanorder part is of German decent and Swedish. I'm also told that one of my great-great-great- grandmothers was Pennsylvania Dutch. My great-grandmother was half Indian- Half Canadian French

On my Dad's side, the only one I know of is O'Day of Irish I know nothing of family. I think my family on this side has a little african due to some of the features common to my family.

My major question is, knowing this much could I research my family heritages in all of these? Would I be able to with so little information?.

My name I was born with is Jame Lees Martin. I am the last Martin in our family line and I really want to keep it, I like it so much, I want to be called that for I may change my last name to Greene because my whole family's last name is now Greene (my mum got married) so Should I do that? Be known as Jamie lees Greene but called Martin?

1. I am trying to find my family lineage. So, with only my surname (Bitzegaio), My grandma's maiden name (Law) and my biological father's name (Thomas).....and no money to spend on ancestry.com or any other service...I'm having to do my search to find what exactly is my heritage and to what degree I am of what.

2. There is a German candy bar...by name of the Bitz Bar....(it might be slightly different by name..but Bitz is still the title name to it) or at least there used to be this candy bar. I am wondering if anyone knows if they are still around and if they have a website.

3. If you can't help me on the other two...does anyone know what the hall of records contact info is in the USA or Germany (if they have national databases anyway).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. (just please no smart assed "go to ancestry.com" stuff....I can't afford to spend money out on that site..so I'm going to have to do this a little more old school than that).

My great-grandmother was 100% american indian. Based on her, my ethnic heritage includes 1/8th (12%) american indian.

Various forms ask for ethnicity. Can I check the box that says american indian if I'm 1/8th american indian? Are there any rules about this?

When I was looking through the family photos I ran across several pictures of people whose identities are complete mysteries. I have no idea who they are, or where or when the pictures were taken, but many are old enough that it's safe to assume that those included have died or are very, very old.

Some feel it's a violation of privacy for pictures of their relatives to be uploaded so that just about anyone can look at them, but surely there are some who know what their distant relatives look like and would like to see previously unseen pictures of them.

Information of even the slightest relevance is welcome, and referrals to helpful web pages are appreciated.

I know that they came here at different times, right around the turn of the century. They were both from Austria and were Croation, but there is no information on the Ellis Island Website, I've tried several different spellings of their names to no avail. My grandmothers name was Louise Zorich (Americanized) and my grandfather's name was Alex Bogovich. I believed that he arrived first and then she. From family stories, she came here with her younger brother/brothers and one of them died onboard and was buried at sea, not uncommon unfortunately.I long for information, especially as I grow older.I'm 50 now and they are long gone. He passed away before I was born and she in 1968.They married and settled in Chicago and had several children, my dad for one.My question is, is there any other way they could have arrived other than Ellis Island or Philadelpia, since I've already checked the websites of both of those ports? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Patty Bogovich/Howard

Is it true some 1861 census records have been lost?
I have tried the 1851 &1861 census to find George William & Martha Day who married in Wiltshire in 1843 but lived in the London area. Martha is a widow in the 1881 census. I find it hard to believe it would be a spelling error on the part on the Census collector. How can you misspell Day? Any suggestions would be appreciated

According to the geneology of Jesus in the gospels of Matthew and Luke, Amminabad's father was named Ram(in Matthew's) and Admin(in Luke's) while his grandfather is Arni. But the father of Arni and Ram was both Hezron. They say that Matthew's wrote the line of ruling while Luke's considered the biological line. And how come Joseph, husband of Mary, has to different father; Heli (Luke's) and Jacob (Matthew's)?
