Is it true some 1861 census records have been lost?
I have tried the 1851 &1861 census to find George William & Martha Day who married in Wiltshire in 1843 but lived in the London area. Martha is a widow in the 1881 census. I find it hard to believe it would be a spelling error on the part on the Census collector. How can you misspell Day? Any suggestions would be appreciated

I am pretty certain that if you go to www.ancestry.co.uk and look at the census for 1861 it actually tells you which parts are missing

Genealogy The first census held in the UK was 1801, it has never been made available to the public because it was of such poor quality. The next census to be made available to the public is the 1911 one, which will be available from 02/01/2012. Have a look at the list posted below it gives exact dates.

It doesn't have to be misspelled, just written badly. Then the transcribers read it wrong. I'll see if I can find this for you, but I need a bit more information. Do you know birthdates/places for either of them? Children's names?
