I took this pyschology class and the first book we read was...

about a guy that was a soldier, got his body blown up, but was still alive, but couldn't move, talk or communicate. i think it was from the first person perspective. he had to be kept in a enclosed structure/life support.

I remember the book posed the questions is there really a god, and what does it really mean to be "alive"

I think the book had a black and white image of a hand grasping a grenade.

I am nothing
My life is a mirage of what I thirst for
An illusion of everyone else's envy
I hover on the edge of reason
Disembodied from reality
My fingertips wait to explode and reveal
Me
I'm not ready
I am afraid

I have already conquered INTENSITY, ODD THOMAS and COLD FIRE, enjoying INTENSITY and COLD FIRE the most, of those two, enjoying COLD FIRE the most. (Sorry for the rant, just name all the titles that aren't crap.)

Please only state books you've read...I like psychotic-ness stories more than just sheer murder...more the supernatural than the violence.

Giving Blood many years ago, when I worked as a transfusion volunteer at Stanford Hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liza who was suffering from a disease and needed blood from her five-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, "Yes, I'll do it if it will save Liza."

As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?"

Being young, the boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give her all his blood.

Speciifcally I want to find a book that explores why it is that people seem to allow the government more and more leeway in it's actions -- as the govt lies more, as it kills more, is there a parallel in this tolerance in the public to the decline of the idea of law -- ie: Simpson evading murder conviction -- less and less respect for or interest in the rule of law. The Supreme Courts essentially going politically rather than lawfully in pushing Bush into government...

"For Peter, to think is to do" is a quote from an old children's book. I think the book was about a child who makes a garden. I think the book had color pictures.

Thank you for your help in answering my question and telling me the name of the book, the author and if possible where I could get a copy.

From high school in the 1960's i seem to remember a short story about a diving team who referred to themselves as "iggles". Any information to help me find the title and/or author is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Can you write a sad limmerick? 10pts. for every honest attempt, even if we have to cheat to get 'em to you. I can't do it, and I'm good at this sort of nonsense.

I am interested in starting a book/poetry club to discuss good books/poems, to meet new people, and have outings maybe once every 3 months. (Ranging from a day at the spa to eating out). I was thinking that maybe once a month each person could contribute $20-25 for the book club savings fund for when we do go out. Is this a reasonable idea or do anybody else have a better suggestion(s)?

Preferably chapter books in the 8-12 age range. The only really good ones I've ever come across was the Golden Filly series by Lauraine Snelling. Know of any others?
