He is great! I read American desert, Erasure, and I'm reading Glyph now. Ok, Glyph has a few words I don't understand and I'm sure I don't get everything he means, but it doesn't matter because you can still enjoy it on another level.

Has anyone read him?

I also like him because he is black (read on, it's not racist) and in Erasure, he wrote about a character who was a black writer and professor whose identity didn't rely on the fact that he was black. The character also made fun of black writers who only wrote about stereotyped black people, and of white people who only recognise a black people's ability to write only if he/she deals with African-American issues. Also, the character is not perfect, he is a bit full of himsekf. Basically, he is normal. Whatever his skin colour. I think Everett is great!

Ok...maybe I should have posted this under a different category but there is no "poetry" section...

This is the text of the poem "The Valley of the Black Pig" by William Butler Yeats:

THE dews drop slowly and dreams gather; unknown spears
Suddenly hurtle before my dream-awakened eyes,
And then the clash of fallen horsemen and the cries
Of unknown perishing armies beat about my ears.
We who still labour by the cromlech on the shore,
The grey cairn on the hill, when day sinks drowned in dew,
Being weary of the world's empires, bow down to you,
Master of the still stars and of the flaming door.

My question to you is: Who do you think is the Master of the still stars and what is the flaming door? Just looking for different opinions.

I have to write a very important paper in English for school, and I've chosen "Oscar Wilde" as a general subject because the writer, his life and his works fascinate me- especially his flamboyancy and unique sense of humor. I don't know what to narrow my subject down to, though, and I'm under time pressure. Does anyone have any ideas??

Answer with the name and the "etymology" of the name. Science fiction and fantasy fans, this is an easy ten points for you. I'm bored and feel like spending five points to give you ten, and to put Philip K Dick up on the board.

It would be really cool if someone broke it down for me. (Don't get me wrong: the last stanza is pretty clear, but the rest are somewhat baffling.) Cliff's Notes, anyone? A girl sent it to me, and since I'm not the brightest when it comes to poetry, help me out.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I am wondering if his other works are similar and if I would enjoy them.
