I tend to dislike long, rambling poems. If I want to read 100 pages, I'll read a book. I like poetry that is short, not haiku-short, but 50 lines or less. I tend to like poetry that doesn't rhyme more so than poetry that does rhyme, though, I have some exceptions. I hate lots of flowery, overdone wording. I am definitely a "less-is-more" person. I like the works of Wendell Berry, some Robert Hayden, Dylan Thomas.

Hate is a strong word, but I dislike overly sentimental and confessional work, as it is generally too self-centered. Too many people think of poetry as a substitute for therapy. That's great if it works for a person, but don't make me read it!

I hate some modern poetry because they think using the fword grabs attention, but it just gets redundant. I especially hate poets that revolve everything around sex and getting high. Be ORIGINAL!

Prose poetry. I don't care how artistically it's written, if it doesn't have line breaks, it's not poetry. It's just prose that doesn't follow the rules.
