French, eclipsed by latest writers generation, but he just went further, and show his talent.

Nobody understand woman thoughts than him; Quite useful teacher. ;-)

Quite interesting how he develop characters! Great writer, for sure!

I've read his stuff in translation, that's all... he's got quite a nice twisted way of looking at things. The farmhand who's starving, and drinks milk from the wetnurse's breasts, doing her a favour by relieving the pressure... and the story about the alien entity, these two stick in my mind. 'Mouche' was a great story too, about the boating crew on the Seine and their 'mascot'...

Still, how far can I say that I like him? I just read the book in a few days, I didn't really go any deeper or look for more stuff- even though I remember a little about his work, I can't honestly call myself a major fan. I recognised the name though, so that counts for something.

I do! Oh, I absolutely love his writing! My favorite piece of his is La Peur, about riding through the desert and hearing the drum of the dunes and having his friend die. I love to read it aloud just to hear the cadence, the flow of the words. Trust me, it's so much more powerful in the original French than in the translated English. Very, very good.

I've only ever read "The Necklace". It was pretty good, but mostly I just like to say his name. (my sister pronounces it "maple salt")
