To set the stage: I'm writing my first novel... I have no formal training, but I do like to read. I think the plot is really great (it was actually seeded by a dream that I couldn't get out of my head!) and my wife has enjoyed reading the first few chapters, and is excited to see how the plot will unfold... (reading each chapter as it is written is a much longer way to read a story!) I don't expect to get published, of course... I'm mainly writing for the fun of it, and for the chance to escape for a while. If I ever get published, it will just be the icing on the cake.

(More details to follow)

Do you think that the success of the Bolshevik Revolution of November 1917 led to (A) the majority of Russians being worse off than they would have been if that Revolution had never occurred, or led to (B) the majority of Russians being better off than they would have been if that revolution had never occured.

On JK Rowling's site, she talks about how the Order communicates with each other. She said they communicate with their patronus's. "The Patronus is an immensely efficient messenger for several reasons: it is an anti-Dark Arts device, which makes it highly resilient to interference from Dark wizards." When Tonks sent a message to Hagrid, Snape was able to receive it and know what they needed (the gates open to Hogwarts) If Snape were a dark wizard, he wouldn't have been able to get the message.
(SPOILER of Book 6)The only other evidence I can find is, breaking an unbreakable vow will kill you. We know he made one with Dumbledore to obey him. He also made one with Narcissa to kill Dubmledore. So the only way he can live is if Dumbledore ordered Snape to kill him.
I personally can't stand Snape, he is awful person. What are your thoughts?

This started up some heated debate elsewhere so I thought I'd introduce it to the distinguished members of the YA philosophy board :)

Let's say Jane goes into a deep coma. The doctors fully expect her to die. Her family agrees to let her organs be donated. The surgeon removes Jane's kidney and it is transplanted into Jill, who has lethal kidney failure and needs Jane's new kidney to survive.

But then, out of nowhere, Jane wakes up! Her family rejoices at the miracle. When Jane realizes that she is short one kidney, she is furious and is determined to get it back. However, she cannot regain full control of that body part without killing Jill. Is it acceptable, either legally or morally, for her to do so? (Bearing in mind that Jane can still live with just one kidney.)

I'm willing to bet that all the pro-choicers side with Jane and all the pro-lifers with Jill.

How can those who consider themselves to be pro-life also be pro-death penalty, and sometimes even pro-war (which inevitably leads to deaths)? Isn't this a blatant contradiction in one's morals and ethics? I would think that being pro-life should extend to every human being regardless of age or circumstances. Please do not answer unless you are ready to back your answer up with sound reasoning; don't just say, for example, that "I am that way because __________ (insert applicable word) tells me to be."
