We live in a world of psychics, homeopathic remedies, zealotry, faith healers, superstition, and all manner of baseless beliefs. It's not just among our peers, but the people we're supposed to trust to guide and teach us. I'm exposed to it in near-lethal doses every day, and it's really starting to wear on me. It's nice to feel justifiably correct, but you have to admit, siding with statistical probability doesn't keep you warm at night.

I'd just like to know what thoughts help my fellow skeptics make it through the day in one piece.

Okay, here is one of my poems that havent been published yet, but I have already had three poems published, and the editors choice award for one fo them, so here is one of the poems I hope to get published:

Title: Escape

To escape into a world of adventure
where imigination and love soars
I would like to live in a fairy tale world
kiss a frog and get a prince
But our worlds not like that
its dangerous and full of war
to escape into a world of adventure
where imgination and love soars

Although I agree with almost nothing he said I think Hitler is by and large the greatest orator of the 20th century if not all time, what do you think? Who do you think deserves this title?

Title: A Silent Perspective
Everywhere.
Silence.
I cannot hear the echo of my own footsteps along the pavement;
The sound is foreign to my ears, but it is
Familiar to others.
The crowd surges toward me,
Engulfing my tiny frame in its ambiance.
I force a smile to disguise the pain in my heart.
Mouths are slightly open, laughter
Escaping through parted lips.
Silent laughter.
I can only hear with my eyes.
I gaze upon an unknown countenance and
Imagine the sound of a voice, what it is to have a
Voice.
My voice is a series of hand signals few of which can
Comprehend.
I envy those who are normal.
I am tormented by my handicap, though I compel myself to
Live through it.
I look in the mirror, and I witness a monster.
I perceive myself the way everyone else sees me.
Society’s misinterpretation of my world is the cause,
My pitiful self-reflection, the effect.
I cannot conceive of placing myself into your shoes until
You recognize what it is to be deaf, what it is to live
A silent perspective.

So here I am, trying to beleive, yet I really just can't. How can Christians (or others) put so much faith and trust into someone that is so .. unreal? Now I know some of you are going to say that you don't have to prove his existence, but how can u not? To me, the bible is only a fictional story. I really can't get my mind to grasp the idea. How do u beleive and give up your life to follow someone who you can't actually prove to be real? How do you know it's not a story some ancient people just made up to give people hope or something? Why do you believe?

Did people of English ancestry get riled up after 'Braveheart'? After all, Mel Gibson's retelling was hardly historically accurate, and portrayed the English as both mean and incompetent. The English looked even worse when they lost their grip on France to a little girl in 'Joan of Arc', but still no complaint. Was there a public outcry from Egypt after Charlton Heston delivered his people from slavery in 'Ten Commandments'? Or how about the Italian reaction to 'Spartacus', where a Thracian-born slave brings the Roman Empire to its knees?
Apparently these other cultures that have been maligned by ancient history have managed not to take it personally. Are Iranians just really thin-skinned?
