I know exactly how you feel, and I just want you to know that it has crossed my mind on multiple occasions that everything in the Bible could be just made up. I choose to believe, because I see a tremendous difference in how I act as a Christian, and how other people act as atheists or any other religion. There's just such a profound difference. I also find it even harder to believe that we all just evolved from one-celled organisms who were created from gases. The laws of nature contradict that theory. People may think that you are an idiot, immature, and childish to believe in Christianity, but Christians don't believe in theories that contradict that laws of nature. • Well, all of the prophecies in the Bible have came out true.
• There is evidence that God existed.
• Jesus took the place of people who have done wrong and died.
• What else is there to believe? That we were somehow formed from monkeys? Even Darwin admitted before he died that Evolution isn't true.
I know it is difficult to understand, but trust me, your life is a lot better when God is on your side protecting you. It is just so amaizing how much God loved us, that he mad us have a choice to follow Him, instead of Him making the choice for us.
I will be praying for you. If you have any questions just ask me!
another thing that hopefully will help: God was never created, He always was. He made us having a beginning and and end, so everything we know has a beginning and and end, and because God is so different from us, we can't grasp the fact that He doesn't have a beginning and and end.

Try another approach. See the movie "What The Bleep Do We Know?" or "The Secret" or read Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes, or take a look at Quantum Spirituality...all of these attempt to explain our interaction with the Universe and prove to me that there is a mutually beneficial, sort of symbiotic relationship between us blobs of flesh and an Infinite Intelligence. When you really grasp these concepts you peel away all the layers of dogma and religion, Bibles and churches to reveal a truth that we control our own future by the thoughts we think and the beliefs we hold.

At least the virtue of HOPE is still reigning in your question. And that is one of the answers. Not only Christians(God) but also all kinds of religious beliefs like Hinduism(Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva), Buddhism(Siddharta Gautama), Muslims(Allah), and others has common goals: to live the life to the fullest and to achieve greater salvation. It's like having or setting your principles in life but with divine interventions and holy wisdom. Faith is not nurtured nor nature. It's a matter of choice.
Because of this FAITH:
-we encounter love (both human and Divine) not lust
-we can share our endeavors and doubts to the ONE who doesn't answer back physically but can show how/what must be done indirectly without knowing that you already relieved from these burdens.
-we can still smile or even laugh even though the yokes of the world is on your back
I'm not interested in "if God does exist or not" issue. My point here is that this FAITH turns to HOPE, HOPE turns to STRENGTH and STRENGTH turns to PEACE in mind and soul.
Lighten up. God Speed.
=)

What makes me have faith in God is seeing and believing. You can't see him but you can see the things that he does. Believing in him lets you see everything. Now just because you don't know if he's real or not , doesn't mean you can't believe. In the bible he says to test him. When I wasn't sure at first I did. I gave up something that i loved so much and I got something 10 times better. You have nothing to loose if you try it. He causes no harm.

Ever hear the expression that "necessity is the mother of invention"?
Many people *need* to believe in something, given that our finite minds can't understand everything about the world. Religion helps fill the gaps. But I think your intuition is right: religion seems to be a myth. It's a nice story, like a Dungeons & Dragons world, but some people simply take the story too seriously, as some people do with any great story (e.g., Star Trek, Lord of the Ring, Scientology, etc.).
And as Thomas Hobbes, among countless of other philosophers, had pointed out, we are ruled by two things: appetites (desires, e.g., food, sex, love, etc.) and aversions (fear, e.g., pain, the unknown, etc.). So religion is useful here to temper our desires so we don't go overboard, and to give comfort to our fears when we can't conquer fear ourselves.
But who knows, it might even turn out to be a lucky guess that a god or gods exist. So believe in God if you want or need. Or you can embrace the fact that there is no "meaning" in life...there's just life (and death), so live your life the best way you know how.

Believing in God is not a matter of the brain, its a matter of the heart. How do I know God is real? When i look at my life I realize that the person I am today is because of him. Unlike the things of world in which we first must see to believe, We must first believe in God and then he will let you see. No one can fullly explain God because no one can measure God.
Do I as a believer in christ also believe in science, ofcourse I do. Whose to say God didnt create life through evolution? The reasons we have things in common with other species is because we have a creator in common, it makes sense. All in all science cant prove to you how the universe began. What created the particle that caused the big bang? So I ask you, how can you believe in nothing? Surely there is a creator.

That's a question that takes ALOT of time to research and come to a conclusion about. I have come down on the side of believing in God but it is something that I don't take lightly but believe there is ample evidence to prove his existence. But this is something that may take a different form for a different person who may have different questions they need to resolve in their mind regarding God.
Let me ask you this...have you truthfully, with no bias, ever approached the subject of is there a God and really delved into researching the subject from a view of those who have a belief in God (and not just someone who is unwilling to look at the subject but blindly believe)? At some point there has to be faith at some point.

Like many Christians, I was raised to believe. But I came to truly believe in Christ with time...and I KNOW Christ is real because when I have exhausted every thing I know and I do what a real Christian is supposed to and TURN THE PROBLEM OVER TO GOD it is resolved...and in a supernatural way (not coincidence or just "working it out")
I believe because God has shown me things no one on Earth can.
I hope you can believe. Open your mind...ancient people spoke of giant squid and we know (because their bodies float to the surface of the ocean or parts have been found in dying whales) this is true...I am sure you believe in giant squid so open your mind to God...
It may seem silly, but the Spirit is vast and subtle...don't THINK about believing...open your heart and your mind will follow...the Lord Jesus will show you He is real...
Good Luck and God Bless

"How do you know it's not a story some ancient people just made up to give people hope or something?"
Believing in God does you no harm, it gives you hope. I don't know if there is a God and am far from religious, but I can't say with conviction that there is no God. It makes me feel safe to say that there is or might be a God. Belief in God serves as a security blanket.
