I am doing an independent study on grisaille paintings from the renaissance and baroque eras. I am interested in the influence of this particular technique on art. Why was it used the way it was, especially since it was used to simulate sculpture, and who was the main artists who used it successfully. I am also looking for a comprehensive list of works using this technique.

If I lived back then, I would've been with the Union. I had ancestors in the Army of the Potomac, so I would've joined them.

You ever paint something that, after finished, you're not happy with? The work is perhaps good, but still ...? Still, you're not happy?

What if you don't like the final results but don't want to paint over it?

This painting worked on many levels. I wanted to convey a certain
turbulence, a certain emotional ebb and flow. I got this through the liquidified effects of the sky, the wall and the grass. The stone doorway came out right. The problem is the expression on her face. The problem is she looks too smug, too arrogant, too cold perhaps? I was thinking frail when I started this and ended up with just the opposite. Which is why I've never showed it to anyone before.

What do you guys think? You think she's cold or perhaps indifferent?

"A Patch of Blue", is a beautiful story of a blind girl.. who has never known love, and a man who has known love but has also seen terrible cruelty....
They fall in love, and throughout the book he calls her a 'pure of heart girl', referring to her innocence to the ways of the world and her desire to love and be loved....
>>>>

Some people argue that it can mean lots of different things, not necessarily innocence or chastity....

How do you feel about it??? what does it mean to you??
>>>>>>>>>
Thanks, for answering, in advance!;-)

*Have a nice weekend* .. ;)

I'm Nobody! Who are you?
Are you—Nobody—Too?
Then there's a pair of us!
Don't tell! they'd advertise—you know!

How dreary—to be—Somebody!
How public—like a Frog—
To tell one's name—the livelong June—
To an admiring Bog!

This is my letter to the world,
That never wrote to me,
The simple news that Nature told,
With tender majesty.

Her message is committed
To hands I cannot see;
For love of her, sweet countrymen,
Judge tenderly of me!

Clasic art works by artists such as Monet, Van Gogh, DaVinci and others should be available to the public as any copyrights have surely expired by now. Does anyone know of an on-line database where high resolution scans can be downloaded?

There's a certain Slant of light,
Winter Afternoons--
That opresses, like the Heft
Of Cathedral Tunes--

Heavenly Hurt, it gives us--
We can find no scar,
But internal difference,
Where the meanings are--

None may teach it--Any--
'Tis the Seal Despair--
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the Air--

When it comes, the Landscape listens--
Shadows--hold their breath--
When it goes, 'tis like the Distance
On the look of Death--

I have painted pictures of other peoples art. For instance, I painted my own version of "Tournee Chat Noir" by Steinlen. I painted it a lot like the original but added some words to it. I'm not trying to steal the picture, but I would like to sell it on eBay and credit the original artist. Is this legal? I've also gotten pictures from Art.com and painted my own versions. Is this plagerism? I wouldn't be taking credit for the pictures. Basically, is it legal to paint my own paintings from famous pictures?
