I read the Chapter Spinner's End (HBP) again, and there seems to be some intense chemistry going on between Snape and Narcissa. He lifted her from her kneeling position, placed her on the sofa... she kissed his hand... he took a most dangerous oath for her son. This has to be a big clue as to who the love of Snape's love is.
Throughout he behaves with her in a most chivalrous fashion. I also feel Narcissa knew he had a soft corner for her, and was trying to use it to her advantage.
Alternative Interpretations?
Man helping damsel in distress (After all, all men get somewhat scared and easy to manipulate when women cry or look depressed.)
Snape tried to silence Bellatrix's suspicions once and for all... what better way than taking this oath?
Anyways tell me what you think.
