The news today showed a short clip of the restoration of the fresco of the virgin mary with saints in some cathedral or museum, I think. Why is it called a restoration when the artists are actually painting over the original? Do they use the exact paint mixture/ingredients as the original artist used, or they're just guessing?

If I don't know how to draw and can't find a good teacher, how do I become "self-taught" and teach myself? Is it all just a time-consuming trial and error method? I have read many books on "how to draw", but they are too general and don't give a good system.

I recently recieved some Prismacolor Water Soluble Pencils for sketching and drawing, but I don't fully understand how to use them. They say full range of wet and dry techniques but what does all of this mean? Can't I just use the pencil like a pencil !?

This was asked in the context to the day to day happiness versus the big dreams that we nurture in order to ruin this happiness; at times I myself wish to do great things but contrary to that sometimes little tasks of kindness, and good behaviour gives me happiness!!! I mean working hard, living peacefully and helping the needy and also enjoying but the bigger dreams that I have seen sometimes indicates that I might have to sacrifice all these in order to achieve this, So you all good people out there, Can You help this guy??(That's me!!)

I am wanting to find out where my family is from. We have so many rumors about Native Indians and whether we were from France or England. We have traced a few records down to the Civil War, but those are even missing now. What is the best method to track these things down?

I'm writing a critical theory essay, and my english teacher hasn't really explained how to prove that literature is art. How do I prove that, I have to write an essay on three different novels: there are no children here, The Alchemist and the Curious Incident of the Dog in the night time. How do I prove that these three books are art?
