This is a school singing production thing, and though I realise you need to know my voice, I 'd like to have some basic ideas of who has good, sort of 'showy' songs that I can (attempt) to sing and show off my *cough* good *cough* voice. So any ideas? I'd be most grateful.

I have the maiden name of an ancestor. I found the same name and spelling on an ancestor search site listed with her parents and siblings. She was the only one listed that had the first name spelled the same as the ancestor. She is my husband's ancestor. I do not know the country where she was born. How can I prove (or disprove) that they are the same person?

If you have a daughter the right age you've probably got a seventeen-foot long shelf lined with Rainbow Magic books, all supposedly written by "Daisy Meadows".

Every book has the same story - Rachel and Kirsty help the fairies to recover their magic knick-knacks from mean Jack Frost and his incompetent goblins.

Pah. There is no Daisy Meadows, say I. Or if there is, she's a 67-year-old former nightwatchman with a predilection for Fosters. Or a monkey with a typewriter.

Am I being too cynical?

Can you believe that the ancient Romans did not speak with English accents, or that some gung-ho Americans didn't single-handedly win every major war and battle?

Aren't such claims are absurd?

What's next? Am I to be told there never was a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court?

I realize alot of times that when I answer questions, my ideas and words could be used almost verbatim, especially in the philosophy/humanities section. I have no concern about that in the sciences, because none of my replies are original. ... I think that the issue of intellectual property should matter if one anticipates going into the field of thought, but then if one ends up a writer, it could ALL matter... What do you think about this issue of intellectual property and how to share info here? Sometimes I get discouraged when I think that possibly, the person on the other end just needs to write up a paper or didn't read the book but needs quick answers and they're not really confused and is eager to learn or is even interested...just needs to get the answer!
