(I originally wrote this as lyrics for a song several years back. The play was never produced. But I always thought it was a shame that few people have ever read this. So, what do you think? And do you think it sounds too dated now?)
WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO?
Made to feel guilty that I will
made to feel guilty when I won’t
made to feel guilty if I would
and made to feel guilty that I don’t.
Tell me now, what’s a girl to do?
I don’t understand.
Tell me now, what’s a girl to do,
get myself a man?
But I’ve been taught by women’s lib
that it’s wrong if they support us.
But my church tells me once again
that we are here just to support them.
Tell me now, what’s a girl to do
without a good man?
Tell me now, what’s a girl to do,
take a legal stand?
But Repubs say don’t make a fuss
when all the laws seem to screw us.
The system we can’t change, you say?
No equal pay for an equal lay?
(The last verses will be in details.)
