My dad is planning to replace his oil-fired furnace. Someone had mentioned to him the existence of a dual fueled unit, one that can use wood or oil. He has a good amount of firewood available, so, the only cost associated with it would be harvesting the dead wood and splitting it.

Does anyone have any experience with such a unit? How well does it heat when using wood vs. using oil? Can you run it for extended periods on oil (say, if you are on vacation for a few weeks)? Compared to replacing with an oil-only unit, would a dual-fuel unit have a positive, negative or no effect on the value of the home (ie. is having a dual fueled unit viewed negatively by potential buyers, since he is also considering putting his house on the market in another year or two)?

Thanks!

Many scientists including James Hansen, quite possibly the foremost climate scientist on the planet, think the predictions made by the IPCC report are actually too conservative:

"Certain positive feedback effects, as well as recent data on the melting of the Greenland ice sheet, were not included in the IPCC's report. "Because of the cumbersome IPCC review process, they exclude recent information," Prof. Hansen says, "so they are very handicapped."

Richard Peltier agrees. A University of Toronto physicist and the director of the Centre for Global Change Science, he works on mathematical models to explain the melting and freezing dynamics of the Greenland ice sheet and has contributed to the IPCC publications - but even he agrees that their assumptions tend to be "extremely conservative."

I suppose climate scientists who gather and examine the data directly are just alarmists too?

Swartzneggar as Jethro. Would there be less cave in's over oil exploitation. Or would it just be a dark comedy.

My car has a bunch of break dust built up on the rims and I can't get it off with conventional soap and water. It's only a problem visually, but I would like the rims to be clean. They are aluminum alloy. I don't want to use a chemical that will damage the rim. Just wondering if anyone had success with a specific cleaning agent any help is appreciated.

I am wondering if there is a rule specifying how old you have to be to borrow money at those Pay Advance and private loan facilities.
My friends daughter working part time went and borrowed 200$ on 550% interest rate without telling her parents. Granted she is 19, but she still lives with parents, and not paying her bills. She should have some money saved as parents are paying for everything, but she spends it. Are there any laws in this regard? Can a parent go to the facility and forbid them from loaning the money to a 19 year old? Im just very curious how this works.

I have pretty much concluded that as much as I search for answers (studying, researching, and talking with others) that at the end of the day its still a decision that I alone have to make, and no one can help me with it. Agreed?

. Quite often we have in our minds what we believe we want to do only to have a course correction. Often the course correction comes through a major crisis that forces us into an area that we would never have considered.
Such was the case for Samuel Morse. Born in 1791, Morse grew up desiring to be an artist, and he eventually became very talented and internationally known. However, it was difficult to make a living as an artist in America during that time. A series of crises further complicated his vocational desire when his wife died; then his mother and father also died soon after. He went to Europe to paint and reflect on his life. On his return trip aboard a ship, he was captivated by discussions at dinner about new experiments in electromagnetism.
