What do you mean nuclear and extended families? Are you talking about where mom and dad stay married for a nuclear family, and the rest where mom and dad divorce(if they ever bothered to marry in the first place), had kids, then have kids with other people? The reason the standard is higher is because most times in nuclear families, the mom and dad both are of higher quality. In situations of divorce(if they ever bothered to marry), one isn't of such high quality.

An extended family is generally the term used to include aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins etc. A nucluear family is the term used to describe parents and their children only.

Perhaps you need to redefine and ask again. You might want to include a higher standard of what? Finances, morals, religion, housing?????
