Here's a challenge problem I thought up relating to interstellar travel at relativistic speeds.

Your spaceship is in Earth orbit. You want to journey to Proxima Centauri, which is 4.22 light-years away, then return to Earth. Your ship is capable of traveling at any speed between 0 and c, the speed of light. If you make the journey at close to the speed of light, time dilation will cause many years to pass back on Earth. However, if you travel extremely slowly, the trip will take a long time.

What fraction of the speed of light do you travel to minimize the amount of time that passes on Earth during your round trip to Proxima Centauri?

I've had to let go of a couple of bad relations in which I've allowed myself to land in a position to reap horrible servings of disrespect to my character. I used to believe in love as a teen growing up, however that picture has long been gone.

I'm in my early twenties, and I'm just sooo f**ckin angry at myself for allowing myself to go into situations naive, and also at the a**holes who were still nasty in their own hearts/minds to treat a beautiful person (both inside and out) with such disregard. I've forgiven myself first, and I've also forgiven them, I've even told them off...but it still makes me upset. Mostly because I am having a hard time recovering 100%, excited to get back in the "game". I thought that maybe I was ready to return, but I found myself afraid and frozen.

I tried to learn from it all. How do I let go of my disappointments, and not be afraid anymore?

Im a so called "atheist" I dont believe in a living, breathing individual that makes decisions on my life. I was raised Catholic... and have felt the harsh reality of life over and over again, and regardless of my prayer, sh!t still happens.....

Anyways, I look at myself as a good person in most ways. I am caring, and I devote my life to my girlfriend, school, and an overall better life. I often help my neighbor who got his leg blown off in a car accident, and periodically help with chores in my neighborhood. Every year I donate to some charity.... small sometimes.. larger in othrers, and I try to be an awesome person. I dont steal.. Im rarely jealous.. and im usually happy. If i fancy a person., I put them first. Im a pro-life dog lover.... and i behold life for the fullest it us.

Saying that, I think most would agree I am at least a half decent person....

So, IF, as Christians would say, there is this judgment day, will God send me to hell because I dont believe in "him"?

My husband and I recently took in a 15 year old girl who was living with her 20 year old boyfriend. Her mother chose her husband over this young girl and threw her out. To make a long story short...she is now living with us and we take care of all her needs. The problem is, she wants her boyfriend to spend the night here at my home. We said he could but they couldnt sleep in the same bed, becuse we have young children and we dont want them to think this behavior is ok. So...that didnt go over well with her, and she goes to spend the night with the boyfriend and our kids ask questions. We dont feel as if we have the right to parent her, only try to guide her in a better direction. Please help...we dont know what to do. BTW I am only 30 and my husband is 31. We know nothing about raising a teenage girl.

So, i have 3 aquariums. right now i am working on my 55 gallon tank. in my 55 gallon tank is freshwater tropical community fish. i love taking care of fish so far and i was wonder-ing how much harder it would be for me to start a slat water aquarium. i have a 55gallon tank. 20 gallon tank. and a 10 gallon tank. i would like to use one aquarium that i already have to start off with. although, all my aquariums have fresh water fish in them, so i could go get another tank but i already have 3 and there relly is no more room! lol. but i was thinking, how hard- and how much time -and everything that i would need to start a 20 gallon or a 29 gallon salt water aquarium. i need every little detaile, like filter's for the reef's what rock's to put in there what rock's you can put togather what different types of salt water aquqriums are there, everything starting from beging to end, PLEASE. i heard there were some small salt water fish you could put in the tank after 30 day's, unlike 2 mounths

Some people ask for stars in their questions... like "can you star me it's my birthday" or "I want to prove to the world that people can make a difference by getting 700 stars on this question, please help me?"

Whatever the scenario, do you agree with giving them a star, are you being a good person to them or a bad person to everybody else?

Doesn't giving somebody a star just because they ask for it, really hurt the significance of a star?

And how must the person who begged for the star feel? Like somebody with 700 empty stars?

I have an old computer, a no-name I built in a class. I have added memory, improved the operating systems, added storage, replaced the video card but I finally wore out my old CD-Rom and had to retire it.

Got a good deal on a CD-RW/DVD-Rom to replace the crapped out CD-Rom, and it works very well in that capacity, and also works well in burning CD's. But DVD playback sucks.

Anybody know any easy ways to smooth this out? My processor is 800 MHz. I don't really have to have it, but it would be nice if I could. (I've got enough DVD players attached to TVs, but it would be nice if I could play DVDs on my computer.)

If I'm SOL that's no big deal.

im deployed to japan just got here two weeks ago. my wife is back home with our six kids, my god daughter ( three months pregnant) and her boyfriend. i may fight in wars and defend our country, but my wife has a much harder job then i do keeping all those kids in line. my buddy who is also the god father to most of my kids steps in and shows is god father duties every time i am deployed. i love him to death for that. today i called home to talk to the family. it was nice to hear every ones voice. made me feel so good as i was on the phone my kids one by one got on to talk to me. four out of the six asked me if derek (my buddy their god father) could stay the night. i didn't know what to say. a part of me just froze. like i said im glad he is there but it kind of felt like i was pushed aside when they asked if he could stay. i dont like feeling like this. i dont know if its the fact that he is around my family so much. im happy and sad at the same time.
