Some people ask for stars in their questions... like "can you star me it's my birthday" or "I want to prove to the world that people can make a difference by getting 700 stars on this question, please help me?"

Whatever the scenario, do you agree with giving them a star, are you being a good person to them or a bad person to everybody else?

Doesn't giving somebody a star just because they ask for it, really hurt the significance of a star?

And how must the person who begged for the star feel? Like somebody with 700 empty stars?

I would not mind giving a star as a birthday gift as a gesture. In other cases I would give it only and only if I felt that it deserved a star.If I were not to take this precaution I would be heaping an injustice on other questioners. It will also be a travesty of the star-spangled banner.

No way. Not because I believe the star is so valuable and I grudge it from others - I sometimes give it when the question deserves - but because such people are vain and showy and do not appreciate the real purpose of the star in this activity.

Sure. It's not my job to think for anyone else. The only person who can answer your questions about the motives/feelings before/after is that person. You must answer them for yourself. The "stars" are worthless unless you give them away. They cannot be spent. I can only please one person at a time. I choose to please myself. It pleases me to do as someone asks; when I can. I think you credit the "stars" with too much "signifigance". It's ALL personal opinion. Nothing more; nothing less. My personal opinion is: life's too short to waste it on pettiness. On the day that there is anything more involved in "star"-ing; I'll let you know what I think about that at that time. The stars are free; just as the "thumbs up" are. (The "thumbs down" are for someone else; not me.) Spend your stars. What are you saving them for?

No, I never give stars to those who ask. Makes me think they are too lazy to "earn" a star with a worthy question.

No, I don't give a star if asked, only if the question intrigues me in some way.

No. I like wishing them a happy birthday and pointing out the meaningless of such superficial nonsense instead.
