You see a crime, slap on a label as the cause (sin/evil) and move right along to punishment.
You do not consider that crime has a cause because you might find that cause has something to do with you: something you do or something you don't do.
And quite frankly, you don't want to be bothered finding out because that might require you to change, perhaps become more christian, and you'd really rather not bother.
So "sin" and "evil" are awfully convenient scape goats in your world, I suspect. You need look no further than Satan to explain all the ills of the world, and of course there is nothing you can do to stop Satan but preach and pray.
Do I have that about right?
