Start by picking out the bedding - maybe something geometrical or abstract? Use the colors in the bedding to paint the walls and trim, choose a solid colored area rug. Use blinds instead of curtains, that will make it seem more masculine. If you are stuck for colors, blues and grays are always a good choice.

I agree with alyanna about picking out bedding, or if you are using your existing bedding, to help you decide on a color for your walls.
I redecorated my now 17-year old son's room to something a little more grown up last summer. We did a light chocolate color on the walls, we kept his oak bedroom set (since it was only a few years old) and red as an accent color.
We got rid of his white shelves on brackets and brought in black ledge shelves, placed kind of zig zag over his desk. And he got a new desk from Staples (he had an old oak computer desk). The new desk is more glass and chrome looking, with black on it.
We repositioned what furniture we could and decluttered (put away Little League trophies), we also got an organizer for his closet from Home Depot Expo.
I removed the fabric roman shades that were there (and really left over from when it was his sister's room), and got him natural woven shades from Linens 'n Things, which actually had quite a lot of pre-made sizes to choose from at a good price (less than $50.00 per shade).
He loves it, feels more grown up in it, and it looks like a young adult male room. Very classic and sophisticated.

Well, what's your budget and what r ur interests? Your room is a personal thing, you know. It has to reflect your personality and tastes. Jus figure out what your budget is and what kinda stuff you like and go for it. You're the one who's gonna be spendin the most tie there. So, make it as comfortable as possible for yourself...
Are you planning a complete redo? That is, r u gonna start all over with new furniture and everythin or are u jus looking to change wall colours and stuff?
I suggest you get a virtual interior design software like Better Homes and Gardens Home design Suite and try out the changes on it before actually makin them... You can find it with a search on any torrent website like www.isohunt.com

Go to PBteen (Pottery Barn teen) site-they have some cool ideas even if you don't buy anything. Also HGTV has idea/referral photos on their site for all kinds of things. My son likes anime and computer graphics. We did one wall(behind the bed) in grasscloth and he has dark oak furniture with denim curtains and comforter etc. He hangs up his anime "banners" and his desk (2 black metal files and a black 24" door on top-very thrifty-looks great) and shelves over his chest of drawers are black-looks great with his computer and stereo and robots/models. very clean

You need to use your imagination. We painted a sillouette of a skateboarder on our sons wall, used an old skateboard for a shelf, and turned a plaster statue of a skateboarder into a lamp.
Figure out what you like and use your imagination.
