If I was a fly on the wall I would go to my Daughters school to see what she get's up to. Although I would have to stay away from her as she is petrfied of flies; and I'd definatly have to stay away from my partner as he's always killing flies, and I wouldn't want to be a squashed fly!!

This surprisingly common argument reflects several levels of ignorance about evolution. The first mistake is that evolution does not teach that humans descended from monkeys; it states that both have a common ancestor.

The deeper error is that this objection is tantamount to asking, "If children descended from adults, why are there still adults?" New species evolve by splintering off from established ones, when populations of organisms become isolated from the main branch of their family and acquire sufficient differences to remain forever distinct. The parent species may survive indefinitely thereafter, or it may become extinct.

There is now NO REASON for you to make this ignorant statement EVER AGAIN..!
But will you..??

Makes me wonder who the crazies really are. The self aware 'paranoids' or the stubborn, have it my way, arrogants.

Or maybe you got to stand against something, otherwise you're just seen as accomodating, a quality I'm not ashamed to admit. It's just part of me.

I start outside, in hawaii or another island. A tsunami alarm goes off and I see a tsunami in the distance. I run into a huge building that looks like a costco. When I get inside there is a dropoff into an ENORMOUS pool. No one else is in the building. I swim to the right side of the pool where you can climb onto an area with a door. Once I enter the door I am in a room. To get to the next room and escape the building I have to find the hidden door in that room. I find it and go to the next room and the process repeats. Each room is very different. Some look like bedrooms, while others like a lawn patio. Sometimes there are monsters or obstacles that leave me terrified. I have never escaped, I always forget what happens or wake up, I presume. The "doors" are more like portals. They are like holes. Like golf holes. They're very small. But the first door into the first room (by the pool) is like a real door, not a golf ball hole. Also, in the tsunami part I am sad because I know my (cont

Many people learned in elementary school that a theory falls in the middle of a hierarchy of certainty--above a mere hypothesis but below a law. Scientists do not use the terms that way, however. According to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), a scientific theory is "a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses." No amount of validation changes a theory into a law, which is a descriptive generalization about nature. So when scientists talk about the theory of evolution--or the atomic theory or the theory of relativity, for that matter--they are not expressing reservations about its truth.

In addition to the theory of evolution, meaning the idea of descent with modification, one may also speak of the fact of evolution. The NAS defines a fact as "an observation that has been repeatedly confirmed and for all practical purposes is accepted as 'true.'"

The soon to be enforced ban on smoking in the workplace is concerning to myself and my colleagues at my place of work.

The company I work for operates a Day Shift and a Night Shift. The Day Shift have been given an area outside the building in which they may partake in the self administration of the addictive substances contained within cigarettes, that, incidently, are legally sold by the same company, on paid and on unpaid breaks.

The Night Shift are being told that no such provisions will be made as allowing staff to leave the premises presents itself a potential security threat, and thusforth they are expected to work a 10 hour shift without being able to feed their addiction like their Day Shift colleagues.

I personally believe that this is discriminating against the nightshift, and is a human rights violation as it shows no respect for private life.

Does anyone else have similar views,The Hardcore Anti-Smoking Lobby need not respond, other non smokers welcome though.
