In my first post a few weeks ago, I said the CD-drive was a quantum fireball. I now know that it is a Toshiba CD-ROM XM-6402B . Our old PC is running on Windows 2000. Actually, the CD drive did not open or read CDs for about 3 months. Starting up the computer and glancing at the status light would tell us if it worked. When it didn't, the light flashed constantly, with the last flash in the sequence lasting a bit longer than the others.
Anyways, yesterday morning, on startup, the light did not blink; in fact, we popped in several CDs to play to test that it actually was working. It was listed in System tools, under system information, and a few other places, and the system said it was working fine. Today, when we started up the computer, the drive didn't work. The computer even said that there were no CD roms in my computer.
I'm sick of this. Is there any way to fix it without booting the whole computer or editing the registry? It obviously still has life in it.
Serious answers!

Ghandi, Malcolm X, MLK, JFK all said give peace a chance. And what happened? They all got killed.

Why do good people get assassinated? And not the evil ones? So unfair don't you think?

The Supreme Court is made up of unelected men and women. The Supreme Court in the past has ruled in favor of ideals which most no longer see as just, moral or constitutional; slavery, segregation, internment etc.

Perhaps the ruling of a law as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court should not be the final word.

Perhaps the law should go back before the representatives of the people, Congress, to determine its constitutionality.

He seems awfully right wing to me, and he's a war vet, but why do some conservatives call him liberal and wishy washy? What did he do? Does he deserve these labels?

I love to sing and act! I totally want to become in Broadway and I just have joy when i sing and act. Well, I'm in Jr. High. I think I have looks and personality. (Have Braces tho) So im taking musical theatre classes. I asked my parents if i could act and sing for a living and my parents said NO! they said because you have no relatives that are famous. I was so bummed and I cried a little because i really wanted to do that. I convinced my Mom if i could get an agent. She said we dont have that much money and about if we get robbed by an agent who juz wants our money. So i stayed quiet. I just sing for fun now. and have no place to act just in my classes. What do I do?? I really need help! Musical theatre is my passion. I love acting more than singing tho, but im pretty good at both! Please anyone out there to help poor me!

I'm not saying it's not an important issue, but I think it gets more attention, given all the other problems in the U.S., than it deserves. What do you think?

A male pastor walked into a neighborhood pub to use the toilet. The place was hopping with music and dancing, until people saw the pastor. As the room quieted down he walked up to the bartender, and asked, "May I please use the toilet?"

The bartender replied, "I really don't think you should."

"Why not?" the pastor asked. "I really need to use the toilet!"

"Well, I don't think you should. There is a statue of a naked woman in there -- and she's only covered by a fig leaf!"

"Nonsense," said the pastor, "I'll look the other way!"

So, the bartender showed the clergyman the door at the top of the stairs, and he proceeded to the toilet.

After a few minutes, he came back out, and the whole place was hopping with music and dancing again! He went to the bartender and said, "Sir, I don't understand. When I came in here, the place was hopping with music and dancing. Then the room became absolutely quiet. I went to the toilet, and now the place is hopping again."

"Well, now you're one of us!" said the bartender. "Would you like a drink too?"

"But, I still don't understand," said the puzzled pastor.

"You see," laughed the bartender, "every time the fig leaf is lifted on the statue, a bell behind the bar rings five times. Now, how about a drink?"
