He seems awfully right wing to me, and he's a war vet, but why do some conservatives call him liberal and wishy washy? What did he do? Does he deserve these labels?

He's for open borders, he doesn't like free speech ( see McCain- Fingold and this quote from the Imus show "I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected, that has become corrupt. If I had my choice, I’d rather have the clean government". I was listening that day and nearly drove off the road when I heard him say that) I don't think he's big on the 2nd Amendment. Thing like that make him the least likely to given a chance to run for the White House by people who vote in the Rep. primaries.

1. McCain/Finegold campaign finance reform. It has hurt Republicans and allowed liberal hit groups

2. His Gang of 14 supposed moderates. Note 2 of the 7 Republicans lost in 2006.

3. He only courts the base when he needs us

4. He has been rude to the religious right for years.

5. He is a phony and a nasty man.

Right now many of the Republicans in the race have some Liberal views, McCain included. Many true Republicans are not very happy with the candidates in the running, myself included. He is one of the more Conservative candidates so far, but he still has some views that turns many hardcore Republicans away.

McCain was never one to fall into line or step with the republican line. He comdemned our use of torture, and, domestic surbellence, for example. In 2000, he called the fundamentalist wing of the party "intolerent". Republicans like it when no one sways from the core message!

I respect him and love him for his service to America in the war.... but I do not agree with his views on Immigration or foreign policy.

He has been a good American.... but he is not right for America as President.

They think he has been disloyal to the party. I think they are full of it. He's a patriot. That said, I don't think he has the temperment to be President.

He has, on occasion, shown a willingness to compromise and broker bipartisan deals.
