The Jape of Odysseus
by
Terry
I thought one day, when I was young,
to fool the gods and have some fun.
I'd float a jape, up in a cloud,
and laugh at Zeus, and Hermes loud.
For years I worked, past wars and fame,
I offered wine, and put forth grain.
Then when I'd laid my trap to test,
I caught the knee, to play the jest.
The gods, some laughed, some giggled too.
Proud Hera smirked as if she knew.
But Chronos' son, he took it cold.
That very year, he left me old.
