You don't have to convince her. You can go to a clinic and get on birth control without your parents permission, or even without them knowing. There is a level of confidentiality that the doctors won't breach. Technically, your parent have no say over this matter. They could ground you or punish you in other ways, but I would just say to keep it secret.

I started on birth control before I told my parents, for the same reason you want to be on it. I just went to a free women's health clinic. The exam and birth control were both free. In the paperwork I filled out, it asked how I wanted to be contacted and if they could identify themselves to someone other than you if they call.

I also want to add that I am still on the same birth control that I started on those 5 years ago. I have never had those same painful cramps again.

Ask her to go to the doctors with you.
Go get your Gyno/Pap test, and tell the doctor about your severe cramping.

Let the doctor suggest hormonal birth control to regulate your period.

Are you looking for the 3 month pill? that you have less periods?

Tell her you aren't going to have sex, if that's true, and if you ever are, that you will use condoms to protect against std's.

Sheesh!! My mamma put me on the pill as a precauction.
but that was ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh long time ago.
She wasn't happy with it, but she didn't become a gramma of a teen!!

If this was 30 yrs ago, she wouldn't think twice!!!
I am just amazed at how backwards b/c and Mom's have become!!

I went on the pill when I was fourteen for the same reason and had a hard time convincing my father.
Go to your family doctor or school nurse and see if they can help. They can explain that you only want some relief.
Also, you knight be able to go to a clinic and get some birth control pills. http://www.plannedparenthood.org
Is your mother religious? A member of my family who is Mormon, felt embraced that she needed to go on birth control because of the stigma. It made her appear to be having premarital sex.
Good luck, sweetie.
