I'm planning to take just a few necessities for a no-frills, tight-budget trip to London. (Taking one carry-on backpack, for a length of a one-week stay)

Can you give me approximate prices of items listed below?
Pounds are fine, I can do the math into dollars.
Thank you!

Toothpaste
Shampoo/Conditioner
2 AA batteries
bar of soap
1 pair of fair quality women's trousers
collapsible umbrella
a pack of ciggys
lighter
loaf of sliced bread at the supermarket
a can or a bottle of Coca-Cola at the supermarket

I would like to go over to London for a couple of days and was wondering where is good to go on a Friday night. I don't want to go to a club, or a dive. Some where really nice and cool.

I have been there before, and lived in the UK for a year once, so I have covered the basic touristy stuff, but I haven't spent much time there recently, so want to know what the best places to go, eat, see, do, etc. are. If you have something to recommend, please tell me why you think it is not to be missed.

Which is the best month to travel. We would appreciate suggestions on ways to use our money wisely. What sights should we see? How much time should we stay to feel we aren't rushed. Are Americans welcomed in London. I understand that are not in Paris and many other places. Thank you.

I intent to travel to London from 10-13 feb.

This involves a weekend. I am staying only in Zone1.

Would it be cheaper to buy for day tickets (note there are off peak), top up the oyster card, or buy a 7 day ticket.

If topping up the oyster card would be cheaper,by how much should I top it?

Heading to London and UK for 4 weeks in March and April.

Can anyone suggest free things to do (or cheap things), the must-see things, great places to eat that are also cheap.

and of course, bargain shopping and markets!

I will be arriving at LHR T3 on Virgin Atlantic VS11 on the 20th of march at 7am. On the same day, i will be leaving LHR T4 on Qantas QF10 at 10pm. Is it possible for me to stay in the transit area of the airport and getting my checked-in luggage (on VS11) transferred to my later flight (QF10)? Also, if i stay on in transit, where can i get my boarding pass for my qantas flight in the transit area? Does qantas have a check-in desk/area at the transit area? Help!

Does anyone know a website (Ive tried Google & TFL) that tells you where you can get your Oyster card topped up?
I live just outside the zone system in Epsom, so I need to find my nearest place (East Ewell/West Ewell etc).
I know you can top it up on-line, but you then have to beep it at a specific place (all of which are in central London)!!!

sahould the masses of pedal powered rickshaws now blihting the streets of london be licenced. they are carrying fare paying passengers yet have total dis-rgard for the rules of the road. wrong turns, no indication, the list could go on. i asked a policeman a while back if he could get some moved from the corner of shaftesbury ave and wardour st. he replied he had asked them a number of times and they ignore him so if i hit one or two in my lorry trying to negotiate the junction the he will be looking the other way. what can we do if even the police have no power over them.

Will be visiting London soon; we want to stay in the city but be on the same tube line as Arkwright which is either a suburb or a neighborhood on the outskirts of the city. If you are familiar with London, could you please let me know which tube line goes to Arkwright? I can then select a hotel close to that tube line (but I will gladly take recommendations-- budget up to $200 USD/night, sorry, don't know how to make the pound sign on my laptop!)

Thanks!
