i mean when i go to detroit there are fights on the streets and there are racial curse words yelled out all over the place.
When i go to chicago its no racial curse words and few fights and southside is the only part you need to stay away from. Why is this?

Scotland or China?

I'm an 18 year old girl and I want to be gone for a year on my own. I don't have a lot of money saved but would work while abroad. This will be my first time travelling.

Place your votes people :)

I don't mean to be critical, so please, don't take offense americans. I realize people have trouble understanding our brit accents as well. I just wondered if other people have the same trouble as i do. I don't just mean a specific area of america either. I've been all over the country and found it hard to understand the different accents. The east coast and north/midwest were the hardest accents for me "get" Does anyone else have this trouble? Again I don't mean to offend. I love visiting the country, it's beautiful. Just wanted to know if people also think what i do.

As I am American I always am astounded by the stereotypes of Americans held by other nationalities - as if such a huge country contained only people who are exactly the same ...think alike, dress alike etc... America has more nationalities and more common languages than any other country I know. NY has more than 100 languages used daily in it alone. Most just judge a country by the tourist traps that they visit and never see the real place behind the salesmanship. What do you think you have been unfairly labeled as? Just curious

I'm not really much of a relaxed traveler, I like to go out and do and see things. I like seeing and meeting new people on trips.
I went to Europe a while ago and that was by far the best trip ever. Second I would put Kawaii because it was gorgeous.

I want to find a very nice place to live in. Im not much of a city person, however I would like to try that out...not sure if New York would be a good first try though, I think it would overwhelm me.

If there are any places that you have been that you really enjoyed...please share. Or if you know of any great places you would love to be...then let me know, I need some ideas on where to live, and my options are fully open. Of course, Im not just talking about within the United States...anywhere
