I don't mean to be critical, so please, don't take offense americans. I realize people have trouble understanding our brit accents as well. I just wondered if other people have the same trouble as i do. I don't just mean a specific area of america either. I've been all over the country and found it hard to understand the different accents. The east coast and north/midwest were the hardest accents for me "get" Does anyone else have this trouble? Again I don't mean to offend. I love visiting the country, it's beautiful. Just wanted to know if people also think what i do.

Northerners talk to fast to understand. The Southern drawl sounds cool because it is different. Can't understand them either.

No offense taken whatsoever. I grew up in Europe, though I am an American and my own accent is somewhat unidentifiable....so I'm told.

BUT I have trouble understanding some New Englanders [particularly Massachusetts] - and some Southern denizens [Louisianans for instance]

Also those folk from the Dakotas! :-)

As for the Brits - some 'cockney' accents prove difficult for me....as well as the Scots

I grew up gazing Monty Python's Flying Circus and many different super British shows, so the accessory sounds completely usual to me. The Irish are not to any extent further stable to understand than people from Louisiana or Tennessee! extraordinarily older people look to have a troublesome time with all accents - it drives my Dad nuts attempting to make certain what the Brits and Aussies and Kiwis are asserting on his golfing channel pronounces! don't be insulted - American manufacturers reproduction each and every thing - even our very own shows. they do no longer look to be great on originality in the event that they are in a position to take the hassle-free direction and thieve somebody else's artwork.

Being American, I don't have any trouble really understanding accents here. As for British accents, I can understand most pretty well, Scottish and Irish on the other hand are a bit more difficult.

Midwesterners speak nasally. East Coast and Southerners also speak funny. It's probably best if you only travel to the West Coast, you'll probably get the best weather when you're in LA or San Diego which is why you're leaving England on holiday anyway. LOL.
