Ecuador

I'm trying to convince my girlfriend to come with me to Ecuador, partly because I found a really cheap flight to Quito. What are some must see places or things to do in Ecuador? If we do go on the trip, we would be staying in Quito and would have to rely on transportation. So...with that being said, it would be great if we could go to these places were easy to reach by bus or train. Thanks a lot for your help!!!

PS: I am already well aware of Galapagos.. Thanks tho.

I'm thinking of going on a cheap trip to South America and I was interested in Ecuador. Does the dollar go far? If so, what are some things that are cheap? Also, how much do common things cost on average. For example, gas on average costs ______, cigarettes cost _____. I'm just trying to get an idea of whether or not I can afford the trip. We are going in April and staying there for 3 days before heading to the Galapagos, then staying another 3 days after coming back.
