Which major city can you reccomend to a tourist?

Base your decisions on things to see and do in a short ammount of time, plus the overall atmosphere, frendlieness of the people etc.

I'm thinking about renting a car there so I can drive to all the tourist attractions. I speak German, so reading the road signs will not be a problem. I have never driven anywhere other than Canada, so I am a little concerned that I will panic.

My sister and I will be spending 4-5 nights in Germany in May. We are in our mid/late 20s. We are thinking about staying in either Berlin or Munich, or both. We are interested in seeing the typical historical tourist attractions and not so interested in shopping or clubbing. Any suggestions for our first visit to Germany?

My husband and I are going to be in Cologne for a Medical Business Trip this week and have a very limited time to sightsee. My husband is in a wheelchair thus limiting the time even more and the distance we could go on foot. We will have a few hours here and there for two day. I'll be travelling by car around Germany in February/March for three weeks.
Flexibility is the advantage of not booking ahead but is it likely to be more expensive than booking ahead.
I would probably use booking.com if booking ahead.
