Germany is a beautiful country. It leads Europe in the development of technology and the recycling of waste. Germany has a public transport system that is second to none. It produces arguably the world's best beers and cars. The country is full of fascinating history and its people are warm, happy people, though sometimes quite arrogant I have to say.
Germany and Germans all too often come in for some harsh and totally unjustified criticism, particularly from the British. I think if some of these people actually visited Germany and saw for themselves what exactly it is they are criticising, many would be forced to reconsider their views of their European neighbours.

Okay, I'll assume you're American and will give you a fellow countryman that's well-travelled's short take:
1.) The Autobahn is the way it should be in the U.S; great roads, high speed limits and few accidents. Cars must be in shape!
2.)The people place importance on the things that matter, i.e. public safety and care and concern for the environment. Clean!
3.) The side features are limited TV programming, sexually liberated people(TV and publicly!) and great choices of beer! Public drinking is not a concern for the police(and there are few!)
Gratuitous violence not accepted and the public transportation system is one of the best I've seen. That's about it...

Efficient & clean, everything the UK isn't. Also beautful, great culture, architecture. I don't agree with the notion that Germans are rude or ruder than say the English.

beautiful country...went from Frankfurt to Munich to Berchtesgaden last year, and the countryside is beautiful, sausages are tasty, and beer is fantastic. also some nice cars, everything was well-organized there, and for the most part, people were friendly though a little bit reserved.

A country & region that's plateau-ed. Growing more obscure every year (too bad they didn't take a leadership position, in-between Russia & USA as far as Iraq and getting its oil industry back on track). A smart country that's growing more inward vs. what it might be on a worldwide stage. In 2007, being progressive shouldn't mean being more liberal or conservative -- some country on the sidelines needs to step up and LEAD and it doesn't look like Germany can do it. Otherwise, it's very clean and the people are usually cold-shouldered.
