January 1st is called Neujahr in Germany and in general pupils and employees are on holiday.
It´s one of 13 (14 in Bavaria) holidays in Germany

Hi,I'm from Germany!! In Germany it's called "Neujahr" ! New Years eve is called "Silvester". It's called Silvester because of the Pope Silvester († 31. Dezember 335)! Do you want to know something else about Germany? Ask me!
