I am applying to Duisburg-Essen university and if I get accepted, I would start my course in September 2007. All I need is a little bit of info. Anything would help.

I lived in England for several years and I am familiar with Europe and its weather, but I wonder about the German life-style. Do I need to know German (fluently) or can I get there and learn it? Do most people speak English? How is the health care? Is there anything especial I need to bring with me?

I would appreciate it if you give me any kind of information. Anything you think might be useful. It doesn't have to be necessarily about Duisburg either.

Thank you all.

I'd like to travel across Germany via train, but I've looked at the Deutsche Bahn website and the tickets seem to be very expensive. Can you book cheap train tickets really far in advance?

I'd like to go over several routes, including Eindhoven-Szczecin, Eindhoven-Flensberg and a return from Hamburg-Munich

I'm going away 2 days previous to the release date of the final Harry Potter book and I love them. I'll be in Germany at the time, so I was wondering, do they, by any slim chance, sell English versions as well as German ones in Germany? I have a strong feeling the answer is no, but it's worth a go isn't it? :D

I am trying to find the correct spelling of the round advertising boards found on the sidewalks in German towns. The board is a place where local news, events, shows, bands, etc are posted. The round pole varies in size and can be a foot to several feet in diameter and I would guess 8 to 10 feet tall. It was named after the inventer who was a printer I believe. Phonetically I believe it is Lit-fa-zoil. Any help is appreciated.
