Planning a trip this coming winter to the Dom. I've heard different stories from people saying to go to Puerto Plata OR Punta Cana. I am looking for a NICE CLEAN and reasonably priced All inclusive resort. Who's been and Where?!!

My family 2 adults 2 children (4 and 8) like to head to the caribbean (Cuba, Mexico, DR) for a week usually in late January or early February to an all inclusive resort. I have been trying to determine whether it's better to book now or wait until closer to departure time to get the best deals.

I am thinking about going to Punta Cana - I was just wondering if it is safe around the city? What are some of the things you have to watch for (other than normal travel precautions)? Also, what are some of the great things? Please only those who know first hand or from someone they know.
