Never been there, but I heard it's quite nice. I know three couples who have vacationed there in the past year and they all had a wonderful time. Check out the CIA's world fact book on their website, it gives background on countries and lists any travel advisories.

No, it's a safe place to vacation despite being on the same island as Haiti. The interior is very mountainous so little travel across the border takes place & the Dominican Republic remains quite distinct from Haiti despite being right next to it.

If you are looking for a safe place for vacation, then try space. The next shuttle will be leaving sometime next week. Dominican Republic is safer than America, think about it.

Yes, the dominican is safe. I have traveled a few times. My first visit was with just some girl friends, and we never felt unsafe ever on the trip.

i am dominican...i have lived here all my life -i am 42-...and i can tell you this is one of the safest place in latin america.......of course if you come to a big city like the capital santo domingo,you will be in risk of being robbed or else...but this can happen anywhere in the word..
if you are llooking for adventure go to jarabacoa,in the mountains where you will find all kind of outdoor sports,and it is a very safe city for tourists......if you are looking for a nice beach and watersport,then come to one of the hotels in bavaro beach or punta cana ...they are all wanderfull and all inclusive hotels
