We are planning on visiting the Excellence Resorts in Punta Cana this December and are wondering if the waters will be calm enough to go snorkeling, swimming, etc.

I was in Punta Cana last December but at a different resort. I only went in the ocean once but the wave were pretty big. There may be some coves or inlets where they can take you anyway for snorkeling. It was fun to swim in the waves.

Difficult to foresee it.

In some years has been calm,in others not.
December is very close to the end of hurricanes season (En of November) therefore, you can expect some "tricks" from the weather .
In the South,La Romana area, the sea is always calm, with very good spots for snorkeling and swimming(Diving too),as example Catalina island or Saona island(a little overcrowded...)

Each resort in Punta Cana-Bavaro aerea can organize the day trip to such places.
Anyway,in the area there are some "shallows" enough protected from the waves, that can offer to you good snorkeling trips .
But don't expect too much. The U.W.life in such area is not exactly at the "top" .
Better the area close to the Punta Cana Airport . Club Med etc.
It's more wild.
Enjoy your vacation!
