I have often wondered this: I think most Muslims know what we mean when we use the yiddish phrase 'oy vey'.

My query: is there an Arabic equivalent? A phrase that you guys use to express... angst, but that can also convey humour as well?

A few days ago I mentioned to a friend that in Israel, Palestinians had attacked a bus full of children. My friend, non Jewish, remarked:

'Ah, but you read about it in an Israeli paper, so it's biased.'

Now this person is NOT racist/anti semitic/anti Israel or any of that. This person is a genuinely fair and intelligent guy.

But that makes it more worrying; let's extend his 'logic':

No report from any Israeli media is reliable, simply BECAUSE it's Israeli. The basic assumption is of course that Israelis can't provide accurate facts.

Have you ever heard this charge of bias directed at ANY other country? Should I now not believe anything I hear about France, if I watch it on a French TV show? Are English newspapers to be regarded with equal suspicion?

I would argue that an Israeli paper is a more reliable news source for the same reason that my friend disagreed: BECAUSE the attack happened in Israel!!

listen to these jokes:
1)once there were 2 women (Kelly and Layla) and an old Grandpa (Linda), they were neighbors. One morning they all met in layla's house. Kelly said "I have this problem...whenever I go to the supermarket I forget wt to buy". Layla said "I have a problem too, whenever I open the door of the car I forget where to go", the old women (linda) said "Lucky me, I dont have any problem, am 100% healthy, so knock on the wood (knocking on the wood means (esmalla) or God protect u.." so when layla and kelly knocked on the wood (the table), Linda said "Are u deaf, go open the door" HAHA!

2)A math teacher asked a student: "Ur father has 10$, he gives u 6$, what does he have left?", the student replied "10$!!" the teacher angrily said "U DONT KNOW UR MATH?" the student replied "U dont know my father!"

2 tomatoes where crossing the road, the second told the first "I'm tired, you go now and I'll Catch-Up (ketchup)!! LOL

My result:
Your Love Is Represented By a Red Rose

You love passionately and fully, without any reservations.
And while romantic love comes easily for you, you also love many people platonically.
You are a true romantic, and you always can see the best in people

My result:

Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either.

You consider pizza to be bread... very good bread. You fit in best in the Midwest part of the US.

You like food that's traditional and well crafted. You aren't impressed with "gourmet" foods.

You are generous, outgoing, and considerate with your choices.

You are definitely unique and artistically inclined. You should consider traveling to Prague.

The stereotype that best fits you is guy or girl next door. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being average.

someone reaches out and gives you a helping hand, even if it is their sworn duty to do so? For example, did you ever truly appreciate the efforts and dedication of a teacher who tried his/her best to help you, or a doctor who did his/her best to heal you? Do you ever say thank you to people like that, or do you take their help for granted, assuming they are only doing their duty? Do you ever remember them later on, and do you ever pray for them? Is there someone in particular you would like to thank and regret not having thanked back then?

The cleaning lady left the shutter half closed after she left last time, and I have not been using ilmanshar lately since I am hanging the laundry on an indoor manshar in this weather. Anyway, I just discovered that a couple of doves are making a nest on my windowsill between the half closed shutter and the glass. I don't have the heart to shoo them away and destroy their half finished nest, but I also know it's impossible to leave it there till it's finished and they lay eggs! The window has to be cleaned! They are so adorable and I think it's so romantic! I simply can't do it ... any suggestions or solutions to this problem please?!
