Diaspora Jews-- is Aliyah something you seriously consider, or is it not right for you? Do you find that you 'fit in' more in Israel, or in your home country? Would you ever spend an extended period of time in Israel?

Discuss.

Hey LadySuri, I trust your judgment :) I hope you keep aliyah in mind as a future option... Israel would love to have you here

I made Aliya almost 13 years ago, and I am very happy with my life in Israel. Just after 5 years of being in Israel I visited my country of origin and I felt like fish out of water. I felt like a stranger in a foreign land. People in my home town identified me as a foreigner even before I spoke... I was told that I speak with obvious Israeli accent in my native tongue... I could not wait to go back home. Every time I come back to Israel I feel overjoyed and excited that I am back home. This is my only place on earth. I speak very good Hebrew, but my English is better then my Hebrew still (English is not my mother tongue). I am very americanized (I am married to American), so I could have easily fit in US. But eventhough I like visiting US, I still feel that even there it is a strange land and I could never call it home. Israel is my home and I wish to all Jews who are not in Israel yet to make the same decision I made almost 13 years ago and come home.

I made aliyah from New York City.

I am in Israel since 1990.

When I went to Israel, I didn't know if it was right or wrong for me, but I decided to make an experiment. Israel is not an easy country, but I love her and I will never leave her. I feel I do belong here - I feel good with my people in my country and yes, I do feel I fit in here better than America, although I love America too.

The truth is there is no way to know how your aliyah will be - you just have to take the risk and try and hopefully, you will feel at home too in your homeland.

I would love to make Aliyah! However, I dont know how practical it is for me. Not because I 'fit' in more to my home country, but because I was brought up to live like a jew in America and I am used to and have everything here. Yet, I would like to move there just for a year or two.

It's something I seriously consider--I definitely fit in more in Israel than I do here. I would have made aliyah already if I were not 17 and cashless. (And yes, I do feel I am old enough and mature enough to make such a decision) :-)

Peace

I lived in Israel for 12 years.went to pre school, graduated from high school there, and decided to come back the states.
just was not the right place for me, did not want to go there in first place, and if I had the chance, I would change my life completely from the way my mom made it out for me, I blame her. she loved Israel, and now she is here but wants to go back im sure (she doe snot say so though...)

not my kinda people, not the country for me, not in the middle of all that crap going on, and not many other reasons but i wont get picky about it.

it's nice to go visit and relax for a couple weeks in the summer time, maybe chill on the beach, beautiful women, drink a little but that's as far as israel goes for me...

Why are you a semite? Are you an arab? If not then you have no right to live in my land, my ansectors land. The land we have lived in since forever. Along side Jews who were semites. Just because I am Muslim doesnt mean I must live in Saudi Arabia does it. I am Palestinian and I will return to Palestine forever.
